Clinic Director Bio

Dr. Ingrid Screen-Sochting7Söchting is a Canadian-Certified CBT therapist and a Certified Group Therapist of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. Prior to becoming the UBC Psychology Clinic Director in September 2014, Dr. Söchting was chief psychologist for 17 years in an outpatient interdisciplinary mental health program in Vancouver Coastal Health. Dr. Söchting’s areas of clinical expertise include individual and group therapy, emphasizing shorter-term therapies such as CBT and IPT. She also has experience with assessment, treatment, and research of Canadian Aboriginal people and Asian immigrants to Canada.

She has been instrumental in developing CBT group therapy program for depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder, as well as interpersonal therapy (IPT) groups for later life depression. She supervises and teaches CBT and IPT to psychology and psychiatry residents, coordinates the CBT program for the UBC Psychiatry program, and is a clinical assistant professor in the UBC Department of Psychiatry.

Clinical research interests include outcome evaluations of CBT and IPT group therapy (including for Asian immigrants), the role of patients’ expectations for group therapy, predictors of success in group therapy, dropout rates, and bridging the gap between science and practice of psychotherapy.
